Studying abroad was a clear goal.
I wanted with all my energy study in Germany. Still, it is not always easy to find the correct information for your profile, economically and academically (I will tell you about this process in another story).
In 2007 I traveled for the first time to Germany on academic exchange, and in 2009 I traveled again to Germany to do my master’s studies. After finishing it, my goal was to continue with a Ph.D. So I kept looking for scholarship opportunities, and in 2013, I started my Ph.D. in Physics didactics in Germany and finished in 2017.
In my doctoral studies, I realized that besides physics, I was very interested in international education, partly because of my personal experience with access to global education and as a social problem. And not just formal education but also about generating spaces to open conversations around issues such as discrimination, race, and social justice.
What I am doing now
I have worked since 2018 in a postdoctoral
position at a University in Germany. I research and teach about International Education, Global responsibility. Racism, discrimination, and immigration in Deutschland, among other topics.
Now I want also to apply the results of research on these topics to reality. How do we manage to bring it to the community and educate them about discrimination? How can we open a space for conversations about it? We already have a pilot project in German schools. We are working with teachers willing to make a change in their schools.
Many teachers here in Germany want to learn more about it, so we are doing workshops on topics like; What is discrimination anyway? What forms of discrimination exist, and how do they interact? How does it affect society? We discuss our stereotypes about discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation, racism, anti-Semitism, classism, etc. So I look forward to the teachers making an impact at their schools.
Because we are like drops of water in an ocean, the sea moves if we move. For me, love, honesty, and truth are always an investment.
What you give is what you get.
I consult Educational Institutions and students who want to pursue an international education approach, particularly those who wish to come to Germany.
A global education gives us a broader world vision.
